Funding for Architectural Heritage Conservation

Grants, schemes and incentives to support the conservation of architectural heritage. 

The Conservation Advice Scheme 2024 has now been opened for a limited time. Applications must be submitted by the 31st of July 2024 to be considered.

The Build Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) is for the repair and conservation of structures that are protected under the Planning and Development Acts.

The primary focus of the Historic Structures Fund is on conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.

Historic Structures Fund 2024 - Vernacular Structures

In the context of A Living Tradition: A Strategy to Enhance the Understanding, Minding and Handing on of Our Built Vernacular Heritage (2021), the stream for vernacular structures is being retained for 2024, with funding of €150,000. The purpose of the stream is to support conservation repairs and small capital works to vernacular structures that are not listed in local authority Records of Protected Structures or otherwise legally protected. Such structures may be located within an Architectural Conservation Area. All local authorities can apply for funding for specific projects of between €5,000 and €10,000 for eligible projects.

Historic Structures Fund 2025

The primary focus of the Historic Structures Fund will be on conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.

Irish Georgian Society Grants

The Irish Georgian Society is inviting applications for its Conservation Grants Programme 2022 with submissions accepted until Monday 21st February. A total of €40,000 will be available which will comprise €30,000 from IGS London and €10,000 through the newly created Homan Potterton Conservation Grant.

Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme

The Heritage Council, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine manages the GLAS traditional farm buildings grant scheme. Only farmers approved in the Green Low-Carbon Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS) are eligible to apply.

Closing date for applications: The 2023 grant scheme closed for applications on 24th April 2023.
