Air Quality Monitoring at Navan Fire Station, Co. Meath

The Environmental Protection Agency manages the National Ambient Air Quality Network.

The CAFE (Clean Air for Europe) Directive sets air quality standards for member states in Europe and has been transposed into Irish legislation by the Air Quality Standards Regulations, 2011.

Meath County Council has one air quality monitor in Navan town, beside the Fire Station, and it provides live indicative air quality data to the public. The Air Quality station in Navan was commissioned in November 2019.  The Navan station updates every two to five minutes with the calculated Air Quality Index for Health (AQIH) and the Air Quality Map shows the public if air quality is good, fair, poor or very poor.  They allow the Council and the public to review long-term trends to establish any improvement or deterioration of air quality in the town of Navan.

The station measures nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) which is commonly used as an indicator of dust particles in air.

The latest AQIH for all monitoring station locations is also available at all times at www.airquality.ie
