We hold these events to recognise achievement at international, national and local level and we also have a role in commemorating past events or individuals of significance.

To help distinguish between the level, scale and impact of the achievement being recognised and in order to maintain the value and honour associated with a civic award or commemoration, we have two protocols that clarify the process and the categories of recognition that guide how we decide on such events.
