Graphic Studio Dublin
Graphic Studio Dublin was established in 1960 to teach traditional printmaking skills which were unavailable in Irish art colleges at that time. Since then, they have continued to provide studios and technical assistance for artists to make fine art prints. Its Graphic Studio Gallery was established in 1988 dedicated to promoting fine art printmaking in Ireland and abroad, educating the public about fine art printmaking and exhibiting and selling fine art prints on behalf of its member artists.
Fine Art Printmaking
Most artwork is known for being original works that cannot be replicated in exact detail. Printmaking however, is a type of art that utilises the ability to create multiple versions of the same image. Each of these versions is not considered a copy as every print is a manual process guided directly by the artists hand. Printmaking can be divided into four basic categories: Relief, Intaglio, Planographic and Stencil. The total number of multiples of a print is called an edition. Since early in the 20th century it has been customary for the artist to sign and number each print in the edition (e.g., "3/75," where the first number refers to the individual print at hand, the second to the total number in the edition).
