Chairperson of Kells Municipal District, Cllr. Mike Bray commenced proceedings by welcoming the guests in attendance and those watching from home, they represented the 51 applicant groups from the Kells Municipal District who took part in the initiative this year. Cllr Bray acknowledged the challenging times and congratulated all the participating groups on their achievements which demonstrated the real pride the people of Kells have in their district.
Director of Services, Dara McGowan also commended the hard work of the volunteers from Kells Municipal District, he commented that the work that is carried out by the volunteers is invaluable and without it the work programme carried out by the Council in the area would be severely impacted. Mr. McGowan also, on behalf of the Council wished Athboy Development Forum the very best of luck as they are represent Meath in this year’s CoOperation Ireland Pride of Place competition in the Population 2000 – 5000 category.
The highlight of the night was the award of Volunteer of the Year to John Maguire of Railway View Residents Association in Nobber. John was described as someone who inspires and motivates those around him to the betterment of his community. He is an excellent gardener and has been a great teacher imparting his gardening knowledge to the other residents.
