Navan Town Bus Stops *Update*
Navan Town Bus Stops *Update*
A contractor, Priority Construction Ltd, has been appointed to undertake construction work to bus stops along the routes of the recently commenced N1 and N2 Navan Town bus services.
The works include the delivery of approximately fifty new wheelchair accessible bus stops, which will include better signage and trip information at each location and will form a network of stops to facilitate convenient travel across the town, on both the N1 and N2 bus services, interconnecting with the regional bus services. Please note, bus shelters are being provided as part of these bus stop upgrade works. The bus stops were previously subject to a non-statutory public consultation last year – see attached link to the relevant documents – click here.
Initially, works have commenced on the bus stops (NN025 to NN032 inclusive – see attached map) along the N2 bus route on the Clonmagadden Road and will extend to all stops on both routes over the coming months. The Contractor has indicated that the works on Clonmagadden Road will be complete by Monday the 10th of May. Following this, the Contractor intends to move to bus stops at Commons Road, commencing works there during the week of the 10th of May, and continuing until the 25th of May. Some limited advance preparatory works may be likely to be undertaken at some locations, such as road surface cutting. Further updates on programme will be provided in due course.
Due to the scope and nature of the construction works, it will be necessary to close sections of footpath at times. Alternative pedestrian routes will be provided and signposted. Additionally, temporary traffic management will be employed at each construction location.
Once completed, the new stops will complement the improved integrated public transport network for the Town, provide improved accessibility and better opportunities for travelling around Navan by enabling easier, more reliable and flexible travel options. These stops, and their associated bus services will facilitate new ways to get to work, schools, healthcare facilities and leisure facilities. It will also support the transport network’s capacity to cater for the planned expansion and development as the population of Navan expands in the future.
The Contractor and the Council are aware of the level of impact the type of works to be undertaken can have on motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and residents and greatly appreciates their forbearance and cooperation during the works. The Council will be working with the Contractor in an effort to mitigate the disruption as far as practicable. Meath County Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience while these important works are being implemented.
