Meath County Council now provides a free alert service for people living and working in Meath.

The service was introduced by Meath County Council to ensure that quick information is given to people for specific events that may affect them. This may include day-to-day events about roads, water, planning, community, swimming water quality or other isolated events such as severe weather emergencies.

The new alert service allows you to subscribe to get alerts from the local authority using Mapalerter technology. There is no charge to create an account and there are no costs to receive alerts through any channel, including the SMS text messages.

When registering for alerts you can identify both your home and work locations. This means that you will only receive relevant alerts related to your identified locations rather than alerts for all over the County. For example if you live in Oldcastle and work in Ashbourne, then you may receive alerts for both locations or for areas on the direct route between these two locations. However you will only receive alerts for the categories you have registered for (e.g Water Alerts).

Registration requires that you supply your mobile number and email address so that MapAlerter.com can deliver alerts to you. Once you create your account you can always log in and change your settings. If you wish to "unregister" for various alerts then this is easily carried out through your "Edit your account" page at any time.  Some alerts such as planning are sent via email; others via text message or App, it is worth noting that if you download the App, you won’t receive text messages as alerts will issue through the App. The MapAlerter app can be downloaded on the App Store or through Google Play.
