Cruinniú na nÓg 2025 - The Big Dig with The School of Irish Archaeology

Saturday, 7th June from 11.00 a.m. to 4.40 p.m. (6 workshops x 40 minutes each)

Experience what it’s like to be an archaeologist and join the School of Irish Archaeology for The Big Dig workshop! 

Children will experience what it’s like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house! During their dig for Viking treasures and artefacts, they also learn about the lifestyles of their Viking ancestors, guided by a team of professional working archaeologists. 

The School of Irish Archaeology will bring history to life by demonstrating and explaining how the objects uncovered during the dig were used in day-to-day life during the Viking era.

Suitable for children aged 5-12 years.

Free event. Places are limited; booking is required. Maximum of 12 children per workshop. 

*Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the workshop.

*Outdoor event – come prepared for the weather.

Bookings will open on this page on Monday 19th of May. 

Please note: This is a public event and a photographer will be present for many of the activities on June 7th. Attendees will be asked to register for each event and grant consent for photographs to be taken. If you would prefer not to have you or your child’s photograph taken, please make the photographer aware of this.
