Meath County Council Library Service has developed a specialised Toys, Technology and Training initiative. The collection is designed to offer support to children and adults with additional needs. This specialised collection of toys and other resources is available to borrow from our libraries.

The collection was chosen by the staff of Meath County Council Library Service in partnership with therapists and other professionals working in the community. Items in the collection are available for lending in Meath Libraries to appropriate groups/individuals.

As part of the initiative, we will host an annual series of free lectures, recordings and workshops. For up to date details of future talks and events relating to the TTT initiative please follow us on social media and/or subscribe to our regular library newsletter

The C-Pen Reader Pen is a portable, pocket-sized tool that scans and reads words and full lines of text aloud, supporting independent reading and literacy. The pen is ideal for people with reading difficulties such as dyslexia or those with vision difficulties.  Adults and children who are learning the English language will also find the reading pen a very helpful piece of technology to use. The state-of-the-art tool is easy to use, which reads text out with a natural speaking voice and has a built-in dictionary so you can access the meaning of words as you read.

You can reserve the Pen in person, via email or online via our library catalogue.

Conditions of use:
The C-Pen Reader 2 can be borrowed by any individual who lives, works or goes to school in Co. Meath
The loan period is three weeks only and may be extended unless it is required by another person.
To borrow the C-Pen Reader 2, please sign up for a FREE TTT library membership card in your local library.
Please inform staff of any damage to the pen or accessories.

"Tony the Turtle" Video Recordings

Tony the Turtle booksThe ‘Tony the Turtle’ series of books is written by Valerie Sheehan and illustrated by Susan Meaney. The books have been created for parents and teachers of children who see and feel the world differently.  They offer tested, positive strategies to support both adult and child.  They empower parents/teachers to manage everyday activities that the child may find challenging and overwhelming, making daily tasks easier for everyone.  Tony the Turtle also gives the child a voice and a character to identify with.

Valerie Sheehan is a professionally trained ASD tutor with 15+ years’ experience working with families and children on the autistic spectrum.

She has recorded some videos telling each of the stories and these are available to watch on our Toys, Technology and Training Playlist on our YouTube Channel.
