Pierce Brosnan was born on the 16th of May, 1953. He grew up in a modest house in Academy Street, Navan. He was educated in the local school run by the De la Salle Brothers.
He is best known for portraying James Bond in four films: Golden Eye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002).
The 007 heart-throb was enthusiastically welcomed back to Navan , Co Meath by hundreds of well-wishers when he came to receive the Freedom of the town in 1999. The first freeman of Navan, Brosnan was presented with a vellum scroll certifying his new status and an oil painting depicting the views from his old home. He attended the ceremony with his mother and son Chris.
Pierce Brosnan was also awarded an honorary OBE for his 'outstanding contribution to the British film industry'. As an Irish citizen, he is ineligible to receive the full OBE honour,which is awarded only to a citizen of Britain of one of the Commonwealth of Nations member countries.
Brosnan was awarded an Honorary degree from the Dublin Institute of Technology and later the University College Cork. He has since been awarded the Golden Camera award for both artistic achievement and environmental activism.
