Children's Book Festival

Children’s Book Festival runs for the month of October every year and sees libraries, schools and bookshops across the country hosting events with the very best Irish and international children’s writers and illustrators.

Meath County Council Library Service is delighted to offer a fantastic range of events to schools this October.

This year’s events feature favourite book festival authors like Drogheda-based author Nicola Pierce, whose sessions on her historical novels are always well received by both students and teachers alike.  Authors Juliette Saumande & Oisín McGann, are also reappearing at several venues around the county.  Joe O'Brien, author of the Alfie Green series for younger readers and the Danny Wilde GAA series makes an appearance in Slane this year and Ger Siggins, Dublin author of the rugby series about the adventures of Eoin Madden, comes to Dunshaughlin and Kells libraries.

The Solstice Arts Centre will be the venue for Dave Rudden who was a great hit with audiences last year.  Dave has brought author talks and creative writing workshops to over 200 schools, libraries and festivals on 3 continents since the publishing of his first novel, Knights of the Borrowed Dark in 2016.  He enjoys keeping pens in his beard and being cruel to fictional children, but he may also discuss his new novel, The Forever Court.

Junior Book Club and Family Day

Our Junior Book Club/Family Day will run again this year on Sunday the 15th in Navan library. We would like to invite all book club members from across the county to this free open day event with author and illustrator Oisín McGann, storyteller Steve Lally and for the first time in Meath Libraries we will be having a visit from The Book Clinic.  If you're looking for inspiration for choosing your next read then come along to the book clinic and pick up a prescription for a new title recommended by the book doctors at the clinic
