Seachtain na Gaeilge 1 – 17 Márta
The library has organised the following schools events to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge:
Tráth na gceist
To celebrate Seachtain na Gaelige the Library is organising a Tráth na gceist for 5th and 6th classes. Winners of the quiz will win our Tráth na gceist trophy to take back to their school until next year’s event. Our winners will be displayed on the library notice board after the event.
Storyteller Niall De Burca
School Children from the local schools will be visiting the library to listen to well known storyteller Niall De Burca as gaeilge.
Author Event: Larry Ward
Tuesday 14th March 11am Larry Ward's book is called ‘Drumconrath in the 1800s: A Cradle of Irish Culture’. This is a bilingual talk on the book to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge. All welcome
World Book Day
Schools all over the county have taken part in our design a bookmark competition for World Book Day 2nd March. The winning school will receive a hamper of books worth 500 euro. Our winner will be announced on our facebook page that day. See our facebook page ‘meathcountylibrary’
Engineers Week 4th – 10th March
School children been invited to visit the library for talks on all aspects of engineering.
The launch of our ‘Work Matters’ project is being held this month as part of Local Enterprise week, a new jobs board will be on display in the library as part of the project. If you know of any jobs in the area please let us know.
Adult Yoga & Mindfulness

1916 & World War One Collection
Ashbourne Local History Society have donated a collection of their World War One and 1916 material. This collection is available for loan and is on display in the history section of the library Music Appreciation Club Every Wednesday morning 11am – 12.30pm. Come along and join this informal club, which explores aspects of classical music, traditional Irish music and popular musicals. New members welcome. Refreshments provided. Adult Book Clubs

Over 55’s Exercise Class

Regular Children’s Events
Parent & Baby Room
We have a relaxing parent & baby room, including a nappy changing unit, bottle warmer, parent magazines and a CD player for relaxing music. Ask at the desk if you wish to use the room.
Parent & Toddler Group
This runs term time only. Tuesday & Thursday mornings between 10am – 12pm. Bring your child along for games & activities. There is a charge of €2 per morning. On Tuesdays there is also a free stories and songs session with Mary our Librarian, which begins at 11.45am. Ask at the desk for details.

Friday 24th March 4pm – 5pm Our monthly music club, which looks at the top music videos. Also includes a music quiz with prizes. Places available. Ask at the desk for details
Lego Clubs for Kids

Ashbourne Young Adult Scout Group

Coderdojo is a global collaboration providing free and open learning to young people, especially in programming technology 4th and 25th March. Ages 7—14 years. Book your place for each session via the Ashbourne Coderdojo facebook page. Like the page and leave a message that you wish to attend. All children need a laptop with the ‘Scratch' 2.0 offline editor' ’ programme downloaded from the MIT Scratch website. Parents must attend with their children.
Please note that due to the demand for quiet study space, upstairs space is available for Leaving Cert. and College exam study, ask for details at the desk, due to one off events some of these quiet times may vary. If you need a group study space check with the desk, there are some times during the day available. Students are welcome to use the spaces at other times but have to bear in mind as a community library, other events may be running.
Please note the library will be closed on St Patrick’s Day 17th March and reopen on Saturday 18th March.
