Dunsany
Immediately beyond Killeen Castle is the demesne of Dunsany Castle, dating from the 13th century . A magnificent battlement gate and guardhouse guard the main entrance, which has a very picturesque 17th century cross opposite it.
A short distance north-east is the well preserved 15th century church of St. Nicholas, This church has for five hundred years, been the burial place of the occupants of the castle.
On a tomb within the church, carved in high relief, are the full sized effigies of a knight in full armour with his wife. A most notable member of the Plunkett family was St. Oliver, Bishop of Armagh, who was born at Loughcrew, Oldcastle.
