2030 Vision for Greater Dublin Transport
Infrastructure Department
The Infrastructure (Roads) Department is responsible for the planning, design and maintenance of the regional and local roads within County Meath. The National Roads Authority has ultimate responsibility for the National roads, but the maintenance of the National Roads is carried out by the Council with NRA approval.
Funding for maintenance of the national roads is provided by the National Roads Authority. The Council uses its own funds together with specific grants from the Department of Environment Heritage and Local Government for maintenance and road improvements to regional and local roads. Works include road realignment, road strengthening, drainage and footpath repairs or replacement.
The Area Offices of the Council issue Road Opening Licences with reinstatement details to utilities including Bord Gais, the ESB, Telecom and private concerns for the installation of underground services. All openings in the roadway or public footpath require a road opening licence, available from your Local Area Office.
2030 Vision for Greater Dublin Transport
What is the 2030 Vision?
The 2030 Vision will be a long-term plan for transport in the Greater Dublin Area. It will be at the heart of all transport planning in the region for two decades, from 2010 until 2030. As changes in transport will depend on what the city and region will be like in the future – we need to know what are your expectations for the future of the Greater Dublin Area.
We held some initial meetings with stakeholders and elected representatives, the full reports from these are available here. People who attended these meetings also helped us produce an initial idea of what the 'Vision' for the area might be:
"a competitive, vibrant, city-region of inclusive and engaged communities, proud of its heritage and its national and European roles, and looking to the future, where an improved quality of life for all is guided by the principle of sustainability."
This is just a first step: and we now want your views to help draw up a more detailed plan for our transport future.
