Aura Holohan Group wins 2 awards at the National Irish Safety Awards, winning the Category 1 National Winner in the Sport and Leisure Industry and the Winner of the Continuous High Achiever Award. - Aura operates 2 leisure centres in Meath in partnership with Meath County Council.

AURA HOLOHAN GROUP WINS 2 AWARDS AT THE NATIONAL IRISH SAFETY AWARDS 

 

Aura Leisure is Ireland’s largest leisure provider operating 13 centres nationwide. The National Irish Safety Organisation announced Aura Leisure has won 2 awards at the National Irish Safety Awards 2018, winning the Category 1 National Winner in the Sport and Leisure Industry and the Winner of the Continuous High Achiever Award.

 

Aura operates 2 leisure centres in Meath in partnership with Meath County Council. The Aura Navan centre has been in operation for over 19 years and the Aura Trim centre which has been in operation for over 9 years and are both part of the Aura Holohan Group, an Irish owned private company with over 30 years’ experience in the Leisure industry.  The Group which operates in sport & leisure facility management, architecture, consultancy and event management includes 10 Aura Leisure Centres nationwide, 2 Anytime Fitness Clubs in Dublin, 1 DKIT Sport in Dundalk and the Support Office and Holohan Leisure Consultants in Dublin. The group has won numerous national awards for Disability Inclusion, Health and Safety, Environmental Management and Quality Systems.

 

A local native of Meath, Gerard Morgan who is the Groups Health and Safety Officer who is based in the Aura Leisure Centre of his home town Navan, has been the driving force who has led Aura to achieving this accolade. Gerard has been a dedicated member of the Aura Holohan Group since 2011 when he previously managed both the Aura Drogheda and Navan centres.  In 2016 Gerard took the mantel of Group Health and Safety Officer and he has elevated health and safety best practise in the group since. Gerard coordinates the safety culture across the organisation, supported by a team of safety reps across all of the Aura facilities. In the past Gerard has helped Aura Navan gain the National Gold Standard White Flag and helped Drogheda win Energy Awards for 3 years in a row 2015, 2016 and 2017. Along with these Gerard has supported the other Aura sites achieve the coveted Gold Standard White Flag and EIQA Awards.

Cllr. Tom Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council and Dara McGowan, Senior Executive Officer, presented the award to Gerard at the Aura Navan Centre on November 8th to celebrate this achievement.

Cllr. Tom Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council said he was privileged to present the award to Gerard “it gives me great pleasure to recognise the efforts of people in the workplace, and I am also delighted that it is a local Meath man that is being honoured today for his achievements in his career to date”.

Dara McGowan, Senior Executive Office, Meath County Council, congratulated Aura’s Group Health and Safety Officer Gerard Morgan  “This award is a well deserved recognition for Gerard’s hard work in promoting Health and Safety in the workplace, and for making the Aura Leisure facilities a safe place for both the staff working in the facility and for the pubic”

The Aura Holohan Group was also recently ranked in the ‘Top 30 Best Large Workplaces in Ireland 2018’ in the ‘Great Place to Work’ awards coming in at number 23.  This is the second year running that the company made this listing.

 

Aura is the largest leisure operator in the country which employs over 370 staff across 10 Aura Leisure Centres. Between Aura Navan and Trim, there are over 68 staff employed in the leisure centres which see’s on average over 12,900 children attending Swim Academy per year and 6250 school children being taught swim lessons per year.  Aura Leisure is open to the public for membership or Pay as You Go and includes a swimming pool and gym. Both centres recently had a gym refurbishment in 2017.

 

Aura Leisure continues to excel and raise industry standards. The Group recently launched the Aura Training Academy which is committed to enabling people to achieve quality learning opportunities through their training courses with internationally recognised qualifications across a broad spectrum of courses. Aura Training Academy courses include Swim Teaching, Lifeguard, FAR – First Aid Responder, AED, Pool Plant Room Operations, Pool Water Treatment, CFR – Cardiac First Responder, Manual Handling and Fire Training. These courses are all available at Aura Leisure Centers to both the general public and staff.
