AFRICA DAY

 

Africa Day, which falls on 25th of May annually, is the official day of the African Union and marks African unity. The programme of Africa Day events in Ireland is coordinated and supported by Irish Aid at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Meath County Council. It aims to highlight the scope and benefits of Ireland’s engagement with Africa and increase public awareness of Irish Aid’s development programme throughout Africa.

Africa as a continent is blessed with rich and multiple cultures and traditions. Meath Africa Day event is taking place for the first time in Navan and will feature free performances by well-known African musicians, children’s entertainment, traditional African drumming and dance workshops and cultural performances.  


Tinu Achioya, Programme Manager, Cultúr Migrant Centre Navan notes “As we all celebrate mother Africa, let Africa be visible on the streets, in your work places and in your communities”.

 

It is a great occasion for families and friends to celebrate African culture and the strong bonds that exist between Ireland and the continent of Africa.
