Road Kill Survey

The Road Kill Survey is administered through www.biology.ie and is a project of the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), part of the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government (DEHLG). The NPWS manages the Irish States' nature conservation responsibilities under National and European law. There are many requirements of Member States under the EU Habitats Directive. One of these is to monitor the incidental killing of listed species.

Road kill may be a significant cause of mortality for some animals. In certain species (e.g. the Otter) the loss of only a handful of individuals is likely to have a significant impact on local population dynamics.

To view the survey or submit a roadkill sighting, please visit http://biology.ie/home.php?m=npws
