Shorebirds and Wildfowl of East Meath

The Shorebirds and Wildfowl of East Meath will be having a meeting on Sunday 28th October at 11.00am at Mornington (Centra). It location can be found here. The meeting will take you  around the Mornington Beach area to one of Meaths small but significant shorelines and show the different species of birds and their habitats.

Royal Irish Academy Life Sciences Issue 4

The Royal Irish Academy Life Sciences Committee has just released the Royal Irish Academy Life Sciences Issue 4. It contains an in-depth description of biodiversity in Ireland, its importance and delicate nature is also discussed.

The 2013-14 Getty Graduate Internship Program (Los Angeles)

The 2013-14 Getty Graduate Internship Program (Los Angeles) is now open to applicants of all nationalities who want to pursue a career in the visual arts. Students in a current graduate program are eligible. The dead line for applications is 1st December.

Tidy Towns Award

The 2012 Tidy Towns compitition marked the 21st anniversary of the national compitition, this year the proud winner was Abbeyshrule, Co. Longford but the Meath town of Athboy also had reason to celebrate.

The Hill of Ward, near Athboy recieved the 1st runner-up award for the Tidy Towns Heritage Award, for the ongoing study, preservation and the community support into the site.

Lismullin Heritage Series

Amateur Photography Competition

ICOMOS Ireland strives to promote, preserve and conserve Irish cultural heritage and the 2012  Irish Rural Landscape Amateur Photography Competition will help to capture  Irish cultural heritage. There are three categories, under 10, under 18 and over 18 and the closing date is 28 September 2012

Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme

The 2012/13 REPS 4 Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme is now open for applications, information on the scheme is available on the Heritage Council website. The Dept. of Agriculture, Food & the Marine and the Heritage Council administer the grants which are granted for the purpose of carrying out approved conservation works to the exterior of farm outbuildings (roof, outside surface of walls, windows and doors) and associated structures (historic yard surfaces, walls, gate pillars, gates). Grant amounts vary and more details are available on the Heritage Council website.

Pedal for Peat's Sake (Irish Peatland Conservation)

Annie Capell from San Francisco in California will pedal around the Bogs of Ireland for a month so to raise awareness about peatland consevation in Ireland and raise funds for the IPCC 'Save the Bogs Campaign'.You can follow Annie on her Pedal for Peat's Sake on her Blog, you can also donate here.

The Gathering 2013.

The Gathering Ireland 2013 is a national incentive to promote tourism in Ireland. Events that represent the Irish way of life past and present, will take place throughout the country and throughout the year of 2013.

These events will be organized by existing organizations but the beauty with The Gathering is that many of the events in this year-long celebration are organized by you, in your local community. Guidelines for your successful gathering are available.

In Meath there is a proposed gathering that will focus on the names of people, from around the globe that are associated with the High Kings of Ireland but with Meaths rich heritage, reasons to draw people into the county should not difficult.

Heritage Week 2012.

Heritage Week in County Meath was great success, events such as the walk organized by the Rathfeigh and Slane Historical Societies to celebrate the Slane artist John Cassidy (1860-1939), the publication of Ardcath/Clonalvy - A History by the Ardcath/Clonalvy Historical Society, bat watching in Moynalty and  the Trim Walled Town festival all helped to portray the rich variety of built, cultural and natural heritage contained within County Meath.

Heritage week  2013 will be intergrated with The Gathering 2013 but more information featuring heritage in The Gathering can be found here.
