‌Pride of Place—Navan Municipal District Awards night

The Navan Municipal District Pride of Place awards were held in the Council Offices, Buvinda House, Dublin Road, Navan on Thursday night, 12th October, 2017.

The evening was emceed by Eilis Sheehy, Senior News Reporter for LMFM.  The Mayor of Navan Municipal District, Cllr. Tommy Reilly welcomed all the guests, which included local Councillors and representatives from 34 local groups. Cllr. Reilly praised all in attendance for their hard work and achievements during the year.

Director of Services, Mr Kevin Stewart also welcomed the guests and congratulated the people of Navan for the progress and effort over the last 12 months, in particular their achievement in the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) results where Navan were placed joint 11th for 2017 and now considered “Cleaner than European Norms” a fantastic achievement and an overall jump of 10 places since 2016.

Some of the highlights of the night were the “Volunteer of the Year” award which was awarded to Florence O’Reilly.  Florence was referred to as ‘dynamic, energetic and the back bone’ of the estate who keeps it well maintained year in year out and has organised numerous sports days within Abbeylands Crescent estate. The second highlight was the award of the Shane Donnelly Inspirational Award which was presented to Larry Campbell a Meath County Council employee.  Cllr Tommy Reilly paid special tribute to Larry for all the work he carries out around the town of Navan to help keep it looking clean, tidy and for the assistance he provides to all.

Overall the judges were very impressed with the achievements and progress made by all groups since last year and would like to give a special recognition to a number of groups, they are;

Trim Municipal District: St. Oliver’s Park Ballivor under Housing Estates Small category, Johnstown Way Enfield under Housing Estates Medium category and Griffin’s Pub, Trim under Best Shop Front category.

Navan Municipal District: Abbeylands Crescent under Housing Estates Small Category and St. Brigid's Villas under Housing Estates Large Category

Winners in the Youth Project, Housing Categories, Heritage, Nature / Wildlife, Shop Front and Hospitality/Tourism, Vacant Premises, Grow Your Own and Small and Large town will go forward to represent the Trim Municipal District in the County finals where they will compete with the winners from the other 5 Municipal Districts. The County finals will be held on the 9th November in the Solstice Arts Centre, Navan.
