Meath Libraries are providing access via Proquest to the fulltext articles in approximately 850 newspapers worldwide. These include Irish national and regional papers. The national papers are
- The Irish Examiner (Jan 2011 - present)
- The Irish Independent (June 2006 - present)
- The Irish Times (Jan 1995 - present).
Also included are approximately 39 Irish regional papers. Some of these are
- The Drogheda Independent (Feb 2008 – present)
- The Limerick Leader (Oct 2007 – present)
- The Kilkenny People (Oct 2011 – present)
ProQuest has an International Newsstand, an Australia & New Zealand Newsstand and a UK Newsstand.
Each issue of every newspaper is indexed thoroughly, so researchers have access to top news stories and to detailed information on sports, business, and the arts around the world. Citations and abstracts are available for all articles saving researchers time. The indexing covers not only complete bibliographic information but also companies, people, products, etc.
Note that Proquest does not give you access to the digital copy of a newspaper, but rather the full text of articles plus citations and abstracts. The articles of some newspapers that otherwise require a subscription to view (e.g. The Times in the UK) are fully available via the Proquest database.
