The Meath Healthy Reading Scheme is a collaborative venture between Health Services Executive (HSE), Meath Psychology Service and Meath County Council Library Service. The aim of the project is to promote mental health and well being through recommending and making available high quality self-help books.

The Meath scheme involves GPs and other health professionals, such as public health nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists and community mental health nurses, recommending specific books to their clients from a child and family booklist and an adult booklist.

The health professional simply completes the brief book recommendation form which clients can then exchange for the book, free of charge, at their local library. In order to make it easier for clients to access the books, Meath County Council Library Service have placed a full stock of all the books in the following libraries: Ashbourne, Dunboyne, Navan, Trim, Oldcastle, Kells, Duleek and Dunshaughlin.
